Tāmaki regeneration is about much more than building warm, dry houses. It’s about giving local families the best start in life – at home, school, and in the workforce.
The Tāmaki Response team works hand in hand with our community for a better future. Together, we tackle some of the toughest challenges like poverty and long-term unemployment to improve the wellbeing of whānau, hapū and iwi and by holding talanoa and wānanga for solutions.
What we're working on
Te Ara Hou
Getting a job as a busy sole parent is challenging. We worked with a small group of sole parents to develop solutions to make job seeking easier. One solution is to have a dedicated MSD case manager for single parents to help build a more trusting relationship.
Whānau by whānau
Whānau by Whānau is a wrap around service for whānau living in crisis with multiple and complex needs. This new service will be available in 2020 and will be provided by Te Hoe oo Taamaki and Te Whānau o Waipareira.
Education change plan
Education changes lives and communities. Great work is already underway in Tāmaki education, but more can be done to position our local schools as the school of choice. We brought together parents, students, key community members and educationalists to support our schools in innovative ways and meet the needs of our growing community.
One size does not fit all – we heard loud and clear from our tenants. Security, having their own courtyard or balcony, and being close to the Glen Innes or Panmure town centres were most important to them. This useful information will now inform our neighbourhood designs for quality apartment living.
Tāmaki early years hub
Giving 0-4-year olds the best possible start in life is important to us all. The Early Years Hub has evolved to support tamariki and their parents with an early childhood centre, health and wellbeing services all under one roof!
Creating conditions for Tāmaki whānau to prosper needs to happen across complex and interconnected systems, not just within families. This requires new thinking and action. This workstream seeks to explore, identify and create tactical interventions that leverage systems for positive change in Tāmaki.
